Having a baby soon?

Welcoming your new additionIf so, there are a few things to organise once you’ve welcomed your new addition.

Baby to-do’s include things like getting a birth certificate, requesting an IRD number and scheduling Plunket visits to name a few – and these can be easily forgotten in all the excitement of having a baby.

So to make things easy, we’ve compiled a handy guide – it’s a list of 23 to-do’s for after you’ve welcomed your new baby into the world, and it’s called…

23 things to arrange for your new addition

23 things to arrange for your new addition is a free guide to help you take care of baby-admin.

To get a taste of what’s in the guide, the first 3 to-do’s are below:

1. Check your car seat installation

Before you leave hospital with your baby, you’ll need to make sure you have a suitable and safe car seat for your vehicle.

To check that your car seat is approved, look for a label on the seat which shows the ‘AS/NZ 1754’ safety standard has been met.

2. Get a birth certificate

You can order a birth certificate when you register the birth of your child, or you can order one later from the Department of Internal Affairs website.

The current cost for a standard birth certificate is NZ $26.50, or you can order a decorative birth certificate for NZ $39.80 (which also includes a standard birth certificate as well)

Tip: Once received, take a photocopy of your child’s birth certificate (just in case!)

3. Request an IRD number

An IRD number is not essential for your child, but you’ll need one if you plan to apply for Working for Families Tax Credits.

Getting an IRD number is free, and you can request an IRD number for your child on the Inland Revenue website.
